Get familiar with touchscreen

Your device has a touchscreen. With the touchscreen you can handle all the functions of your device without using the traditional keyboard. Learn how to control your touchscreen with different actions: tapping, dragging and swiping.

Control your touchscreen by tapping

You can control the touchscreen in your phone with your finger tip, stylus or plectrum. You can use different gestures such as tapping, dragging and swiping to manage the content in your phone.

Remember that you should use only a stylus approved by Nokia for use with this device. Using any other stylus, or an actual pen or pencil, might scratch and damage the touchscreen.

If the SIM card is not properly in place, the device can only be used in the offline profile. Use your stylus pen to help you to remove the SIM card.

Tap and double-tap your touchscreen

Normally when you open an application and other elements on the touchscreen, you tap it with your finger or the stylus. There are some elements that need a double-tap.

Elements which need a double-tap:
    • List items in an application, such as the Drafts folder in the Messaging application.
    • Files in the file list, such as a picture in the images and videos view. If you tap a file or similar item once, it is not opened, it becomes highlighted. In this state you can check the options available for the file by selecting Options, or tap it a second time to open the file.

Drag and swipe on the touchscreen

To drag, place your finger on the screen, and slide it across the screen. You can use this to move on a web page, for example by dragging up and down, or to arrange icons on your menu.

Drag the slider of the scroll bar to scroll up or down in lists that have a scroll bar. In some list views you can scroll by setting your finger or the stylus on a list item and dragging. For example, to scroll contacts, set your finger or the stylus on a contact, and drag up or down.

Swipe

To swipe, slide your finger quickly left or right on the screen. You can use this when viewing an image, to view the next or previous image.

Lock the keys and touchscreen

Slide the lock switch on the side of the device to lock the keys and touchscreen to prevent any unwanted dialling, or to open the keyguard. When the touchscreen and keys are locked, the touchscreen is switched off and the keys are inactive.

The screen and keys may be locked automatically after a period of inactivity. To change settings for automatic screen and key locking:

  1. Select Menu > Settings.
  2. Select Phone > Phone mgmt. > Auto. keyguard.
  3. Set Keypad autolock period to either None or User defined, where you can adjust the amount of minutes and seconds after which the keyguard is automatically switched on.
  4. When you have set the time, select OK.

Your device also has a proximity sensor which disables the touchscreen automatically when you place the device next to your ear. This helps to prevent accidental selections.
